What more can you learn from glycated haemoglobin

The hemoglobin A1c test tells you your average level of blood sugar over the past 2 to 3 months. It’s also called HbA1c, glycated hemoglobin test, and glycohemoglobin.

American Diabetes Association (ADA) is recommending the use of a new term in diabetes management, estimated average glucose, or eAG. Health care providers can now report A1C results to patients using the same units (mg/dl or mmol/l) that patients see routinely in blood glucose measurements. The calculator and information below describe the ADAG Study that defined the relationship between A1C and eAG and how eAG can be used to help improve the discussion of glucose control with patients.

The relationship between A1C and eAG is described by the formula 28.7 X A1C – 46.7 = eAG.
